Utah Statewide Independent Living Council (USILC)
The Utah Statewide Independent Living Council is a private, nonprofit organization. The USILC mission is to promote full inclusion, independence and empowerment of people with disabilities through advocacy/systems change, planning/organization, education, networking, resource development and independent living service enhancement.
The USILC works in partnership with the Independent Living Centers and the Utah State Office of Rehabilitation (USOR) to enhance Independent Living opportunities throughout Utah. The USILC is responsible to develop a State Plan for Independent Living in conjunction with the organizations above. The Council is responsible to review, monitor and evaluate activities related to the plan. The USILC also engages in advocacy to further Independent Living and promote the rights of people with all types of disabilities.
Membership of the Council consists of people with disabilities, representatives from Independent Living Centers, a USOR representative, representatives of other disability related organizations, parents and advocates for people with disabilities and other interested persons. The council maintains a minimum of 51% people with disabilities in order to ensure consumer control.
